Happy Mother’s Day from a Proud Mother in Cape Coral, Florida
Cape Coral, FL
Mother’s Day may only come once a year but being a mother is a 24/7 job. Being a mother is one of the toughest jobs but also the most rewarding as well. I originally decided to pursue a real estate career when my oldest was born. I had taken maternity leave and attempted to go back to work but couldn’t happily do so. I ended up asking that job if I could have a 6-month unpaid leave to which they agreed but when I inquired about going back they said my position wasn’t available but another one might be. I took that opportunity to think about options. I sold real estate investments I owned in order to pay the bills. I had taken my real estate pre-licensing course earlier that year. I started doing virtual assistant work for current real estate agents at that time for some additional income then a year later took my real estate exam. You’d think I was crazy waiting an entire year before taking the state exam. But I passed on my first try. I set high goals for myself but it took 6 months to sell my first property/earn my first commission check. The second half of the year was pretty good and every full year thereafter has been great. Some weeks I’ve worked up to 80 hours and other weeks just 30-40. I’ve never missed an important event in my son’s life and that makes it all worth it. I live by the idea of setting a schedule and putting in your personal, family, spiritual schedule FIRST then adding in prospecting time, appointments times then working on business matters. Balance is key. Moms certainly have the multi-tasking, negotiation and time management skills necessary to become their own boss. Real estate is a natural fit for sure. Looking back I am so happy that I was able to spend the first year & 1/2 home with my son before going part time then full time into real estate. It truly is amazing what you can accomplish with focus. Last year I was lucky enough to have another son. This time around, being the owner of the brokerage, I only took a short amount of time off, but I am still able to spend plenty of time with him as well. Kids are gifts that should be cherished. Yes, sometimes they give you grief but that is their way of learning. I believe that every good parent, mother, should take care to take care of themselves so they can then take care of their kids.
I hope all of you mothers enjoy YOUR day today and that everyone else remembers their moms and their children’s mothers.
Happy Mother’s Day!
